Having gone to them and treated with disdain, I need to expose the dubious tactics beeing employed by Akhona Furnishers to rob people of there hard earned money.
I bought a lounge suite (Omar lounge) made up of 2 pieces of two seaters and 2 pieces of one seater from Akhona Furnishers at Market street branch on 10th May 2008. They gave me a one year warranty verbally. However few months later by December the foam on the lounge suite have caved in. I called them to ask again how many months warranty they give on there furnitures and I was told that 1 year. I them explained my ordeal to a guy called AK, he said I should bring the faulty louge suite to there office. I asked him which branch as they've four branches in johannesburg. He told me I can take it anywhere. I repeated my call again sometimes in February 2009 to be sure as I don't want to waste money hiring a lorry and getting a different story when I get there. They gave me the assurance on phone that my lounge suite is still under warranty and will be fixed.
On Tuesday 3rd March, I took the most damaged of the furniture piece (1 two seater) to the Market street branch. To my surprise the same guy called AK first of told me my furniture is out of warranty as they give only 9 months. On my insistence and reminding me of my calls, he changed his statement without even looking at the level of damage to the furniture that they warranty does not cover the frame of the furniture. The final insult was that he now told me to take the item to the warehouse even when I told hime that he was the same person that I spoke to before bringing it to the Market street branch.
I summoned courage after all the rude ways they addressed me and took the damaged item to the warehouse at Kay's street. At the warehouse the manager (Muneq) disagreed with my claim and said they only give six months warranty on lounge suites. I got angry and was surprised about the conflicting stories. Finally Muneeg said they will be collecting R700 to fix the 2 seater payable before collection.
Akhona Furnishers are a bunch of crooks as fortunately my friend that took me there has got almost the same story with a cupboard he bought from them

Their are really crooks, i bought the mirror they gave me the broken mirror, when i called them about it after an hour they told me that why didn't feel it if it was broken,
no refund and no exchange
if you will see me buying from the Indians shop, i rather take time to save for something guaranteed, i should have spent my money on something else than to buy the broken mirror ;D

I am very surprised that some of you have bad experiances with Akhona furnitures. I have bought all my furniture from them for my whole house over 3 years and never experianced a problem with them. I referred many people to them, friends and family who are all happy. There is a gentleman who works in the warehouse now by a name of Amed and he is very good.

I bougt a double bed from Akhona at the branch in market street and after 2 years the bed started to get flat. i called the shop and they told me to take the bed with the invoice to the warehouse. Last week saturday i took the bed to the warehouse and spoke to the manager there. He looked at the bed and did not ask me any questions and told his workers to give me a new bed. I thought he was going to give me some stories about not wanting to take it back but hedid not. I was very happy because now i have a new bed.

Hello Ahmed
My apologies for not coming back to you re collection from Kempton Park branch. The service from you and the KP branch was awesome. Muneer was so helpful and treated us as if we had bought the shop out – Royal treatment. I have recommended Akhona to lots of friends and family.
Well, as for the comfy nights on the sofa – what can I say, I have never slept in front of the TV, now that’s all changed the TV and I are real pals.
Once again thank you for your awesome service
Kind regards
AnneK

Hi Anne,
I trust that this email meets you in great spirits.
I have checked with my Kempton Park store who have confirmed that you had collected your lounge suite. I opted to allow you some time to get comfortable before I send you this email to find out if you were satisfied with the lounge suite and the service rendered by our Kempton Park store and by Akhona Furnishers as a whole.
If I may be of any further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I wish many warm comfy nights on your sofa !
Regards
Ahmed Mayet
